Who is Dr. David Muhammad?
Dr. David Muhammad holds a PhD in Sociology and a Double Major Bachelor Degree from the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Sociology and Education. He also holds a Teacher’s Diploma from the Valsayn College (now University of Trinidad & Tobago) and is a tertiary level lecturer at UWI ROYTEC and Cipriani Labour College. He is the Trinidad and Eastern Caribbean Representative of the Honourable Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. David Muhammad has lectured extensively in several schools, libraries, community centres and city halls across Trinidad & Tobago, and also in Antigua, Guyana, Grenada, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Dominica, St. Croix, Jamaica and also in London and Birmingham in England, New York, Miami, Houston, and Chicago the U.S. and in Toronto, Canada. Muhammad has appeared on television, radio and newspaper features across the Caribbean and has travelled to at least 36 countries. He is a frequently invited feature speaker at many public events hosted by various companies, business organisations, learning institutions, Credit Unions, community groups, the National Prisons, the National Library and he now lectures weekly at the BLACK AGENDA BUILDING, (Kwame Ture Centre) Success Laventille, Trinidad, built by the Black Agenda Project Organization of which David Muhammad is the founder and director.
David was born on August 17th, 1970 (Marcus Garvey Day) in Somerset England. He returned with his Trinidadian parents to the Caribbean in 1978. He is a past student of Trinity College in Maraval. He is an accomplished guitarist and has done several hours of digital recordings. His interest in Black consciousness became activated and focused when he began studying Sociology at age 17. He returned to the U.K. in 1991, where he joined the Nation of Islam the next year at the N.O.I. South London mosque. He was also a 1991-92 Black Studies student of Dr. Femi Biko at Stockwell College, London, England. After coming back home to Trinidad again he began lecturing in December 1992, and officially began the Nation of Islam Trinidad Study Group in January 1993. In September 1993 David was invited to meet with Minister Louis Farrakhan in St. Kitts and this began his motivation to make his mission a life-long struggle. It is the collective value of his experiences as a member of the Nation of Islam under the leadership and guidance of the Honourable Minister Louis Farrakhan since 1992 that has prepared him to publish such a complete, thorough and valuable compilation that will certainly be an overwhelmingly thought-provoking asset to anyone seeking the truth. Muhammad has been an occasional writer for the internationally circulated Final Call Newspaper and also the T&T Weekend Mirror Newspaper.
David Muhammad is also a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu Karate and a student of world renowned Professor Don Jacob of Purple Dragon International, and a qualified V.I.P. bodyguard who worked with Winnie Mandela in 1998. In 2005 Muhammad embarked on a series of inspirational “Men Only Meetings” across T&T and in 2006 along with colleagues launched the Black Caucus which enlisted a membership of over 800 persons within the first week. The Black Agenda Project was launched by Muhammad in January 2012 which is a “skills bank and think tank” of hundreds of members. The original Black Caucus was relaunched in 2014 and merged with the Black Agenda Project with Muhammad as the chief spokesperson.
Brother David has also sold thousands of his speeches on CDs over the years, both in Trinidad & Tobago and overseas, most noteworthy among them were the 7 Volume Set “Trinidad Black History 1498-1990,” “Mind Power,” “Racism & Classism,” “What is the True Islam?” “21st Century Emancipation From 21st Century Slavery,” “Great Black Women in History,” “Reparations & CARICOM” and the 3 Volume Set “Caribbean Studies” which was first launched in Detroit, Michigan in February, 2014 at the NOI Saviours Day Convention.
He has also been interviewed on several international radio programs including by radio stations based in Baltimore, South Carolina and Toronto. David Muhammad has been the manager of the Trinidad & Tobago National Senior Men’s Football Team; the “Soca Warriors” for more than 100 matches. His tenure was from 2007-2011and he was reappointed again in 2013 up to 2015 and has travelled to various parts of the U.S.A. as well as Puerto Rico, Jamaica, England, Bermuda, Cuba, Haiti, Guatemala, Argentina, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Chile, Panama, Belize, Guyana, Martinique, Brazil and Canada on behalf of the Trinidad & Tobago Football Association (TTFA), his travels included a visit to Saudi Arabia in September 2013 where he performed his Islamic pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca. He was also manager of the T&T National U23 Football Team for the 2015 PanAm games and Olympic qualifiers for 2016 and he acted as Manager of the T&T Under-17 Team for the 2015 CONCACAF and World Cup qualification tournaments.
In April – June 2013 Muhammad completed a “7 Nation Caribbean speaking tour” continuing to enlighten and inspire his people. He also accompanied the Honourable Louis Farrakhan to 6 Caribbean Nations during the 2012 Unity tour meeting with various prime ministers, opposition leaders and governors. On January 3rd, 2014 David Muhammad was listed as one of the Top 10 Personalities of the Year 2013 by the New York based “Caribbean People Newspaper.” On the same day he was featured in the UK Gleaner Newspaper based in England being interviewed on his ideas on Caribbean Unity and Regional Integration. In the same month Muhammad was given the “Hero of the People Award” by NGO “The Centre for Justice” in Port of Spain. He remains the host of the BLACK AGENDA radio program which has been aired on various radio stations in Trinidad & Tobago including the Street 91.9FM, POWER 102FM for 10 years from 2002-2012 and on WACK Radio from 2012 to 2013. Muhammad has also hosted programs on Radio Trinidad 730AM, Ebony 104FM and I 95.5FM.
In August 2014 Brother David was invited by Minister Louis Farrakhan to be a part of a “think tank” of persons from 7 countries across the Caribbean and the U.S. for 6 days in Barbados to plan the 19th Anniversary of the Million Man March, in September 2014. Along with Ishmael Muhammad (son of the Honourable Elijah Muhammad) he addressed the press conference in Jamaica officially announcing the event and was also one of the opening speakers on the day itself in Kingston Jamaica, October 19th, 2014. In December 2014 Muhammad started a twice weekly television program on Synergy TV Channel 15 called “The Knowledge is Power Hour.”
On March 28th, 2015 David Muhammad co-hosted and addressed the Nation of Islam’s “Women’s Only Conference” at the National Library in Port of Spain to a capacity crowd. The launch of the first printing of the book Black Studies which was held on August 15th, 2015 was one of the largest book launches in Trinidad history with close to 500 people attending, and the book continues to be a great success. The book Knowledge is Power followed in 2018.
David Muhammad continues to present radio and television programs, write newspaper articles, lecture to audiences across the hemisphere and work on a number of other publications including Black Studies Book Two which shall be centred around the themes of Black Philosophy, Education, Black Culture, Sociology of Law, Sociology of Health, Youth Development and Agriculture.
On May 26th, 2018 Muhammad and colleagues opened the Kwame Ture Centre, which they built themselves with neither government nor corporate funding. Since then the organization hosts free lessons for secondary school students and also hosts African Trade Expos around once every three months.
